How do we teach the concept of thanksgiving to our children? There are several things
we can do to insure our children understand the importance of giving thanks to God.
The first and most important element in teaching our children any new concept is that
we model it before them. Children are master emulators and will do as we do. Our
prayer and worship life must reflect a thankful heart toward our gracious Lord.
Teach Scripture to your children. The following is a list of several verses you can teach
even to your youngest child.

Psalm 42:4 - "These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng." Psalm 69: 30 - "I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving." Psalm 95:2 - " Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song." ![]() Teach your children to sing songs of praise to the Lord. When we were teaching our son to pray and thank God for His goodness, we began by singing. Soon our son learned that singing and praying go together and he began to sing his prayers to God. Teach your children the value of thankfulness at mealtime. Allow your children to say grace at each meal. This will help them to understand that food doesn't just appear before them, but is a gift from the Father. You may also want to sing a prayer as a family. Choose the melody of a children's song and write out the words of a prayer to fit the music, then you can sing it together as a family at mealtime. Teach your children to be thankful through adverse circumstances that happen to your family. Our son broke his arm one summer and every night at bedtime we prayed that God would heal his arm. God did heal the arm and now our son understands that God cares, heals, and answers prayer. Most importantly, teach your children to be thankful for the Lord Jesus Christ. Teach them to be thankful for the salvation He has freely given us and for the sacrifice He made by dying on the cross to save us from our sins. Accepting Jesus into your heart is as easy as ABC. All you have to do is: Admit you are a sinner. Romans 3:23 Believe Jesus died on the cross for you. Acts 16:31 Confess your sin to God and turn from it. Romans 10:9
